This section is an outline of what researchers have found about some of the foods and drinks we consume and their effect in the gut microbiota.

Does a particular food alter microbial composition in the gut? Or function? Is it metabolized by microbes living there? and what are the products of this metabolism? Do these metabolites affect human health?

I will try to answer these questions in plain language, avoiding the scientific jargon so it is easy to understand for everybody.

Note: the list may include a mixture of specific foods and categories of them (i.e. green tea and dietary fiber). In fact, the foods/drinks are the “excuse” to introduce the specific compounds contained in them that interact with the microbiota.
