Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) can modulate gene expression via two mechanisms:
- altering DNA methylation patterns by the inhibition of DNMTs
- influencing histone modifications by the inhibition of HATs33
Also, gallic acid and epigallocatechin, microbial products of EGCG metabolism, have also been found to inhibit HATs33.
